Artist Chan Chang How 陈长豪画家

Chan Chang How was born in 1943. He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1965 and has not looked back since. Chang How is renowned for his sketches of olden day Singapore, especially Chinatown and Singapore River, which he has compiled into two books entitled "Sketches of Singapore" and "Vanishing Scenes of Singapore River and Chinatown". The books serve to archive the valuable historical sights and scenes that have been lost due to the rapid pace of redevelopment and have become collector's items today.

Chang How is a versatile artist, skilled in watercolours, oil, Chinese brush painting and mixed medium. He adopts a bold and creative approach and succeeds in bringing out the best from the characteristics of each medium. His works are original compositions viewed from interesting and unusual angles, always beautifully composed, aesthetically pleasing and captures the spirit of the theme.

One of the high points of his artistic pursuit is the invitation he received to represent Singapore and participate in the Flemish International Water Colour Exhibition in Brussels in 1998. After the event, he traveled extensively in France, Germany, Holland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Austria, observing the countryside sceneries and learning from the works of the old great masters of the past whose works are proudly exhibited in the grand museums and galleries. Chang How returned to Singapore with a burning desire to attempt larger and more creative works on canvas and paper.
